BAMBOO GROVE
A small grove of Wild Bamboo wintering in Upstate NY.

If you only would get to know them - You would love them!

wild Bamboo can be found along roadsides and in back yards. For many people it's an unwelcomed sight. Because it can be invasive to manicured and roadside areas and because it spreads rapidly it is usually considered a disaster to landscaping. However, there are many forms of Wild Bamboo. There are species native to North America and there are species transplanted from far away places such as Asia and South America. There are clumping varities which stay in confined areas making a gorgeous ornamental compliment to your landscape. Then there is the rampaging variety called runners. Runners are the much hated variety that overwhelm home owners by taking over their home's landscape. Runners have a rapid spreading, tenticle like, root systems which are hard to destroy. With that said - whether clumpers or runners, as an artist all I see is a beautiful, sturdy - wood like material (when dried) that has lots of artistic value.

THE DRIED STEM OF THE INVASIVE BAMBOO PLANT
IS QUITE DECORATIVE
AS WELL AS BEING VERY STURDY.
