The rocks that make up most country stone walls are rocks which were discarded by farmers clearing the fields for crops. This was a useful application for these nuisence obstructions. The stone walls became major landmark indicators of property lines and interior divisions. With the changing times in farming the practice of using the rocks for stone walls for ones own property has all but died out.
